For adventure lovers, Nepal offers activities ranging from Class IV white-water rafting to bungee jumping from one of the tallest bungee jumping spots in the world.
There are three main spots for white-water rafting - Seti River in Pokhara, Bhotekoshi in Sindhupalchowk, and Trishuli in Charaudi. Each of these rivers has its unique rapids and range from Class III to Class V, depending on the season. There are two places for zip-lining (Sarangkot and Dhulikhel) with each set above lush green forests with close views of nearby mountains.
There are three spots for bungee jumping - Kusma, Pokhara, and Bhotekoshi (the third highest bungee in the world) along with many places for paragliding, rock climbing, and canyoning. You can also take ultra-flights and hot-air balloon flights. Most of these activities are suitable for anyone above the age of 10. However, zip-lining has a weight limit criteria.
Pokhara is the major hub for these adventure activities due to the stable thermals. Paragliding in Pokhara is gaining world-wide recognition and it’s the only place currently offering daily hot- air balloon flights and ultra-flights. Paragliding and rock climbing are also possible inside Kathmandu Valley and in Bandipur. The exciting Dhulikhel Zip-lining is just an hour and a half away from Kathmandu city.
Although most of these activities are carried out throughout the year, each has its weather requirements. For instance, paragliding requires a sunny day with stable wind thermals, ultra- flights require clear cloud-free skies, and the hot-air balloon rides also needs the right wind speed from a specific direction.
Rafting is not available during the rainy season because the increased water volumes make it unsafe. During winter, the rivers do not have enough water volume to form rapids and bends. Even rock-climbing cannot be done during monsoon because the frequent rainfalls make the rocks weak and slippery.
